Your Mothers' Hand

It was the first thing you felt before you were born
As you floated in silence so sweet
Your Mom placed her hand on her tummy and sighed
" Hi little one...can't wait til we meet "
Through those long months, she'd rub you and pat you
You'd wiggle and kick at her hand as she played
You felt so warm, so loved and protected
When she wasn't worrying or planning...she prayed
Then came the day she'd waited so long for
The pains came so quickly, so strong and so fast
You were confused, upset and so fearful
The safety you'd known for so long wouldn't last
You entered this world amidst the loud noises
The lights were all glaring, it all seemed so cold
"Where is it?" you wondered, "That I used to play with?"
It rubbed me, I kicked it, and I need it to hold
Then in the glare of the lights and the voices
They flipped you, they cleaned you, and wrapped you up warm
Then handed you over to still yet another
But you knew this was different, as you laid in her arms
"Where is it ?" you queried, as you looked at her face
She knew without words what you meant
She held out one finger to place in your hand
You squeezed it as if you would never let go
It was only one finger, but you knew the touch
It had calmed you and loved you in that quiet place
What really surprised you, while holding her hand
Was the love and the radiance you saw in her face
You found as you grew, those hands love and protected
From danger and harm that can threaten a child
They endlessly worked all day, and all night
To keep and provide for you all the long while
Sometimes they were tired, or achy and sore
But always there ready, when needed it seems
They calmed you to sleep when sad, or when frightened
They'd turn your worst nightmares, into your sweetest dreams
Though your Mom has now passed on, her spirit is free
The Love that she gave you, grows deep in your heart
Pass on the touch and the Love that she gave you
To your children, and their children...you MUST do your part
You can't ever die, when someone remembers
The special things done with your life, in your time
So you must pass it all on, the Love that was shown you
Share it with others....so HER light will still shine
