Too Late Is An Option...

I don't know what has happened,
but things aren't the same any more.
As the years pass,
you grow used to things as they are,
familiar, comfortable,
feeling good in the knowledge
that they are the way they are
and will always remain that way...
until one day everything changes.

And it isn't the same.

It's as though you have walked from one side of the street
to the other,
and in crossing that invisible center line
things have changed,
as though they were never the way they were before,
and you look back across the street,
and you no longer see the old and familiar way it was,
before whatever happened to change everything.

One thing that I was always pleased with
is that things in life were as they should be,
everything progressing forward,
overall,
sometimes with detours, or halts,
but progressing.
Things could be seen, could be felt, could be understood.
Conversation, talking, speaking, communicating,-
all important...
now all gone away.

It's all been replaced by silence.
Hidden in the silence is doubt, fear, worry, anxiety, wonder...
and it's not as pleasant as it used to be to waken in the morning,
because what happens between now and then is unknown,
and in that there is a question of how things would be.

Things as they are now
are not as they were earlier, are not as they were intended,
are not as anyone wanted or hoped for.
Things as they are now are very much a cause for concern.
But for the concern of whom?
For the one who would be considered an intruder?
For the one who would be considered an outsider?
For the one who would be considered any number of titles or names,
bestowed in anger, in retaliation, in fear, in hate, in foolishness?

What if the world suddenly fell out from underfoot?
What if a very big and desperately terrible thing happened
to the experiences of everyone?
How would everyone react? How would everyone feel?
How would everyone make up for whatever needed to be made up for,
before whatever happens happened?

Too late is an option.
