Can't Take It With You

From the gold
To the wealth
To the power
To the fame
Up there with 'Cheers'
Where everybody knows my name
The titles I claim
Will amount to nothing
When my eyes close
Others will be enjoying
What I had
What I made
So why should I be stingy?
If I've something to give
Why should I die bitter
And not share while I live?
Conscience should be tearing me up
Glittering with gold
Taxing the middle-class and poor
Both young and old
Shouldn't be able to sleep at night
Knowing folks ain't all right
They can't sleep tight
Without a bed for their head
What would I look like
If I didn't come off my throne
And help them instead

Can't take my thousands with me
That wad of cash will be spent
When I'm gone
For someone else to enjoy
Someone who needed it
While I sat upon my throne
Sitting high and looking low
But not moving a muscle
Able to alleviate the pain, the cry, the plea
For democracy; to destroy the hypocrisy
The hungry call
The uneducated dream
The unstable pray
For freedom day

What will become of us when we wither away?
Where are our souls going on Judgment Day?
Will it be life after death
Or just death?
Question shouldn't be asked before
We breathe our last breath
We should know
Only good can result from the
Compassionate that sew
Don't just tell, show
That that heart ain't made of stone
That within your body
Is an unselfish bone
