The Smile Of The Moon
30 March, 2003

The clear Midwestern sky
serves as a canopy
over me as I lie
on the cold concrete of my driveway
and look up at the
mellow stars dancing in the sky
and I see the lazy twinkle
of your drifting green eyes
and I'm lulled back to that
Tennesee sunset, sitting
as the gentle yellow sun
melted into a tired golden moon
and the rays of each met on your face
and kissed your skin
How I long to be back
swimming in those rolling hills
instead of being suffocated
by the sharpness of these plains
but I look up and see
the serene smile of the moon
and in it I see yours
and can only hope that you
will look up in to that clear
carolina sky and see mine too
and your thoughts will drift
to Tenesee and meet with mine
and we will embrace
from across all the miles.
