A Mirage Called 'life'

Life has to go on
A living has to be made
We don't know the distance
The distance, whose price must be paid

Lost in the myriad of choices
Decisions that take us afar
Chasing an elusive journey called success
Staying ahead of the competition, staying on par

Is this worth all the effort?
Is this worth all the wail?
Is this the only way that life could be?
Are the answers hiding behind the veil?

The veil of life is a riddle
A riddle that one can never solve
But, the answers show up as we age
As we age all illusions dissolve

What remains at the end of life's journey
Is only space inside our being
A person who cared and showered love on others
Will find life's true meaning

Money and fame will lose their sheen
Fate will stare us on the face like a beam
Thinking of a life lost in chasing the mirage
A mirage of life that could have been

This 'could have been' is our worst fear
A fear that will follow us like a shadow
Making peace with our past is the answer
It is the answer for a better tomorrow
