Reminiscences Of Summer
28 November, 2002

vinebar

Mirrored in the moonbeams
welling down, illuminating our faces.
Reflected in the cool drops,
splashing up from the shallow river below.
Echoed by the melody,
the familiar chords entering my head.
Relived through the scent,
The smoldering sweetness of burning embers.

Hastening through life,
So much goes unseen, many thoughts pushed aside.
But a crackling fire or a smile from the moon.
I drift silently, helplessly, back to that time.

It's a feeling indefatigable, so I sigh
a subtle sign of my acquiescence.
Despite all of the pain they bring
these thoughts leave me a smile.
Summer's end stole it's beauty
but memories abound in the fall.
Better to drop the world,
then to never hold it at all.

Trying to get into your beautiful grace of thought & word.

I read each word closely, then they flitter past me, leaving only a feeling that truly understands. Yet the feeling (curse be upon it!} will not share its meaning even with myself. Sometimes, the truly gifted, well, actually, always, the truly gifted can write in ten minutes what others can not understand in years. I feel you are a country girl, but know the city life or lack of it? You love the touch of summer rain, the warmth of a cozy winter's fire, and if he is not there, you still feel his hand of love upon your own? No big city controls your heart, it may affect your life, but never, never your heart.

We have Webster's word dictionary which is nice to have around. However, think how wonderful it would be (for idiots like me} if we had a dictionary of feelings, to tell us what each word a poet wrote meant? Thank God, that will never happen for if it did, who would ever write? For such a devil would bring an end to words from poets like you. This I could not stand, but if there were such a dictionary of feeling, I know somewhere, I would see your name, Elizabetta!

Lady E, you have captured my imagination and I truly wish that I could have shared the source of all your loving words of creation.

Martin
