They're Restless

There are reports of the Indians becoming restless, and some are saying they are missing horses, and others have had their cold cellars broken into and the meats and cheeses were stolen.

While the whole families were out in the fields, someone came and entered the cabins and removed the muskets and any powder or lead that was there. Kerosene seems to be disappearing, as well.

This points to a future problem with the Indians, according to the High Sheriff, and a special town meeting is called for right after church next Sunday, at the church, seeing as how that is when most of the townsfolk and those outside of town will be in one place.

Hiram, down at the General Store, says that he is ordering in a few crates of Henry Repeaters and several dozen of Mr Colt's revolvers, plus a lot of ammunition for them, as they have proven to be excellent weapons to use against uprisings. Like all his other items, they can be purchased "on tick," meaning he will take payments, like always. If anyone is killed, and the family is unable to continue payment, he would request that the rifles or pistols be returned for credit, which is understandable.

Also to be discussed at the meeting will be whether to allow Jacob Meyers, a lawyer fellow from up North, Chicago, it is said, to open up shop. We haven't a lawyer in town, but the blacksmith, Ned Harkins, says he will rent out the side of his barn for the lawyer to set up in, if the town approves.

Ned, you know, is the one the entire town turns to for the great harness work and saddle work and iron work, as well as being a farrier of good fame, and also the town veterinarian that we call for health reasons for our cattle and horses, and even for our dogs. He is also a fair dentist in his own right.
I would recommend Ned to anyone with a bad toothache.
