And So It Is...

it is a spring day
i have no spring in me -
heavy hands and fingers
and feet and even my toes
ask for relief from
years of a distress
of my true self - my inner calling
for searching and want of
a happiness beyond the ordinary -

perchance to take a journey -
be it small
to an old city
where history is etched
on boulders of heritage buildings -
where fingertips of DNA
from past centuries cling gently
to walls and stone -

i yearn for a train ride to these places -
a comfort of subtle rattle and roll
of the berths swaying gently
with a rhythm that
induces a sleep of smiles and softness -

tough times call for
deeper sleeps in my case
where nightmares
awaken me
breathing irregular - heart beats tangled
like jungle vines -

no phone calls of delight -
no gentlemen callers -
no pitter-patter -
clanging of pots and pans -
little ones -
laughing - crying -
joyful screaming with childhood
discoveries of newness - of wonders -

and so -
it is
a hotter day -
humidity drops
like a silken sheet
onto my face and shoulders -

in this apparel i wander outside
my shoe box -
white walls - small and compact -
my hopes stuck under
layers of heavy guilt
and induced isolation -

a sprig of greenery pushes out
from time to time -
but never quite blossoms -
and so it is -

where are you ?
