Precious Little Moments

Oh my god he's crying again, I gotta walk away to save my skin
My head is hurting, thread is thin, once he's done just tell me when
You know I have a paper that I really have to write
I have to wake up early but you're leaving on the light
I really don't have time for this, can you please take him away?
I'll be tired in the morning why does he have to be this way?
I have to pay the bills, it's not like it is a crime
I know I said I'd play with him but I don't have the time

Getting ready in the morning, I'm running late I have to go
My phone began to ring, I don't have time for this you know?
You answered the call, but then I saw you start to pace
It was our son's doctor, he wants to tell us face-to-face
Work will have to wait, and so we went to his office instead
Our son's testing came back, I saw him choke up as he read
He said before he tells us, know that it's really personal
Turns out that it was cancer and already terminal

That's why our son cried, turns out he was in pain
I never even noticed, how could I have been so vain?
Every waking moment, we were right there by his side
It seemed to mean the world to him, even when he cried
He was sleeping in my arms, as I rocked him in the chair
When I woke up he was gone, his spirit wasn't there
Our precious little moments were over way too fast
I hope you can forgive me now that your pain is gone at last
