It Is Because

Is there a reason we continue,
day to day,
to live?
We continue,
every day,
to breathe,
to inhale and exhale,
to eat, drink, sleep....
every single day,
for days on end,
weeks on end,
months and years and decades
on end...
and we do this
because we have no other idea
of anything else to do?
We work,
to earn money
to live our lives,
to pay our bills
and to buy things.
Things to make our lives better,
to make our family's lives better,
not only for our wife, or our husband,
but for our children,
and we strive to give them a better life
than we had at their age.
It is what we do.
Because we have no other idea
of anything else to do.
But really -
is there a reason,
a damn reason!...
that we do this?
Is it because we were born,
then we grew up,
and in the growing we made choices,
and here we are?
WHY?!!!
I'm damned if I know.
What's it all about?
God? Hardly.
Destiny? Nope.
Because?
Because why?
Why do we do this,
over and over and over and over again,
when it is, at base,
just the same old same old,
day in and day out,
never ending,
never any better,
as far as how you feel in your mind.
My heart is torn,
my life has been lived,
somewhat,
and I'm so very, very tired.
Why do I continue to continue?

Perhaps... it is because.....
