Today Is Slow.... (aka My Turn At Bat)

Today is slow...
it might even end up being long.
At any rate, it is giving me time...
time to think,
time to remember,
time to pause and consider and,
oh, yeah...
time to remember and think.
But I already said that,
didn't I?
Sorry, but those two seem to go together
so very well.
I can't separate them
and do them separately.
I need them together.
Not for balance....
but for my own sanity.

There are times when my mind
just sorta quiets down a little,
and backs off,
backs away,
as if to say,
"Here it is... your turn now."
Usually I try to ignore those moments,
because usually I don't have anything to use
to replace my mind wandering around on auto-pilot,
but sometimes,
those rare and beautiful times...
I actually can step up and take my turn at bat.

For me to write I need a Something.
I think that's the way it is
with anyone who writes.
Anyone can sit down to a keyboard
and hit the keys.
But for the hits to make it worth it,
the person sitting there needs to have
a Something.
Mood? Yes, definitely.
Weather? Sometimes
Memories? Oh, that helps a lot, too.
Happy? Sad? Pensive? Worried?
Maybe, but not necessarily.
Once in a while it just hits perfectly.
Something.
And the hands caress the keys,
and sometimes the keystrokes actually end up
making sense.
Sometimes they get mired,
and then you feel like chucking it all.
If you stick around, though,
sometimes it comes back,
sometimes it works.
Once in a while it works.
