Sassy Came To Me In My Dreams
Had a most distressing and hellish dream
All of our cats that have gone to wait for us
at Rainbow Bridge
are buried in the back yard.
In my dream they were all out there,
looking as they had been,
and all wanting to be let in.
My wife said no,
as they were not really there,
and she knew they were dead and gone.
One, though, Sassy, my little girl,
Determined, and with a hard-headed attitude,
would not be denied,
and she jumped up onto the window sill outside,
scratching at the screen,
demanding to be let in.
Looking down into her beautiful face,
the face that haunts me still,
I was unable to deny her
and I raised the screen.
Sassy stepped in, then leaped to my arms
and as always, laid her head on my shoulder,
nestled it against my neck,
and it was such a beautiful feeling….
Sassy had come to me in my dreams,
to visit and let me know she remembered,
to let me know she was all right….
I awoke crying.
