Gettin' Old - It Ain't For Sissies

Just so damn tired anymore.
Had a housefull yesterday,
And it was nice.
My sons, Josh, Zach, and Mike,
And the light of my life,
My granddaughter, Olivia…
Wife, and some damn fine chicken
That she does magic things with.
Couple-three kinds of pie
(my favorite is the round one)
Good coffee, and my leg was killing me.
Pretty good day,
Most things considered,
But it could have been better…
But it wasn’t.
Weather seemed to be nice,
Great conversation for a few hours,
Great company, for a few hours,
And then I got a charley-horse in my leg,
Damn near fell over when I went to stand up,
And I suddenly felt old.
Takes me a lot of time to walk short distances,
Whether with my cane, or my walker.
Hell, just a trip to go pee takes some planning.
Through it all, I just keep reminding myself:
“Don’t let the old man in.”
