In All That Time

All those years,
Time,
From when I was a little boy,
Frightened, scared,
Of the future,
Of the unknown….
Time,
From then to now,
Time which did me no favors…
All that time,
I wanted it to mean something,
I wanted it to be for something,
I wanted to be someone,
And that never really happened,
Either.
I spent that time
In many different ways,
Never understanding what that meant,
Never knowing what the paths I was treading
Were leading me to…
Never having any idea as to the morrow.
And sometimes I wonder
If I didn’t waste those precious minutes,
Those hours, those days,
Those weeks, months, years…
Decades passed,
My life changed over so many times,
And I was always looking
For that which I would find to give me what I wanted….
I wanted to be someone.
I wanted to be someone.
I just wanted to be someone
Spring came and went too quickly,
But I didn’t see it.
Summer was equally fast,
And then came the Fall,
Leading to these days, now,
In my winter.
And I have to look inside myself,
And ask,
“Have I become someone?”
