It Is Not Right

Just watching a short news report
on the children suffering
from malnutrition in Somalia,
due in great part to the damn Russian blockade
of grain from Ukraine, among other things,
and I am honestly crying a bit,
tears threatening to overflow and fall
and I am so very pissed at this situation
that I am not able to do a thing to help them.
Why must it always end up with the children?
Why must the children
always be the ones to suffer so?
It is not right, not correct,
not the way things should have been intended.
If this can hurt my heart,
then what must it be doing to the mothers
and families suffering from it daily, hourly,
as they hold their children,
as they carry them to the graves,
as they cover them beneath the soil....?
It is not right.
