A Simple Moment Of Hope

springtime in December
such a warm day
a slight drizzle of rain
dots my coat

a purple clothed jogger sprints by
bye bye
to this last day
of this strange,awful,greedy
year of war torn devastations
and negativity

movies will be made of the past year

a grey day,
a flat sky
no shadows
a black and white movie with shades of sepia

trying for some kind of clarity
hoping to feel what hope is like
I feel what?

a nirvana of blanked out nothingness
a flatline of emotions

now, early evening at home
the twinkle from the lights of many streetlamps
look like stars
and through the window screens
the illusion of radiant rainbow halos emerge

I breathe in the cold sweet air of rainy night incense
I keep the window open
to cleanse my living spaces of a bad upside down year,
like smudging with crispy delicious air -

the branches of the closest trees are coated
by a thin layer of ice -
prisms of colours reflected from the distant traffic lights
their reflections on the shiny icy streets

feeling nature
gifts us with the power of hope

yes, I can feel some of the peace and beauty
for now

I am here now
