One Mistake
23 March, 2004
Author: Everett

No time to think.
Not enough time to react.
My hands tightly grip the wheel expecting the worst.
Beside me, she screams while tires skid on the pavement.
One mistake is all it takes.
Headlights pull me closer to impact.
A helpless feeling comes over me.
No where to go, no way out.
Seconds turn into a lifetime.
We rely on the brakes as we stay frozen to our seats.
Now inches away, silence fills the street.
I remember street lights glaring through the windshield until everything
turned black.
When i opened my eyes flashing lights illuminated the sky.
I sit on the curb and hold her tight.
We realize one mistake could have took us away tonight.

well i meant it as not one particular mistake, but any mistake made. one little or big mistake, especially when driving or on the road. it can cause an accident, whether the mistake is by you or someone else on the road.
