The Privilege Of A Lifetime

She glided through life
People wondered at her beauty,
At her intelligence,
At the permanent smile on her white face.
She glided through triumphs
She glided through failures.
She just glided through life.

One day she stopped
She stopped to take a breath
Only to find that
The people were looking at her shining armor
That day she cried
That day she changed
That day she stopped.

She looked at her armor
She looked at its details
But she found that
It was made by others, by many people
She looked in the mirror
She wanted to take it off
She just looked at her armor

She wanted to be herself
She started to take off the armor
Only to find that
Not all could be taken off.
They were part of her.
They contained her essence
She just wanted to be herself.

She looked at what was left.
At the shining armor on her body
Only to find that
The only armor on her body was on her heart.
That armor shined greatly
That armor was made of gold
She just looked at what was left.

She found her essence
Something she had been looking for
Only to find that
It was painful to take off the armor without knowing what was beneath.
But she became a complete woman.
And she opened her heart to shine for all
She found just what she was looking for.

She then glided through life
With a genuine smile on her face
Shining her love through her heart
She glided through triumphs
She glided through failures
But, this time as herself,
And she finally understood, as Joseph Campbell said,
"The privilege of a lifetime is being who you are"
