Rooftop Refuge
6 October, 2000

Who comforts me
when the shadows of
the darkest night
extend their shapeless hands
to welcome me into their
world of childhood screams ?
Who lifts my spirit
when I call out in anguish
from the rooftop
to announce my pain
over the western side of Mount Royal
traveling to the southern
edge of the island
and beyond to the faint green
mountain ranges of Vermont ?
Who holds my hand when I walk alone ?
Who dries my tears when I smile ?
Who listens to me when I am silent ?
Who fires my soul when the full moon
beckons me to walk in its light, barefoot,
along the smooth ocean shoreline,
as the velvet waters play with my toes,
and the moon beams, cast their enchanted spell ?
