So Much More

There was a woman, that just loved TV
For so many years, now she's 53
Her son slang some drugs, she knew all too well
She wouldn't admit it, until he found his cell
Now she is alone, no one's left for her
Watching her favorite show, now it's all a blur

She's still getting older, she's no longer needed
She tried to get on TV, but never succeeded
Then she got a call, to be on a show
This is what she wanted, she couldn't tell them no
She went to the closet, so she'd be well dressed
The world would see her, looking at her best

A week or so later, she got a letter
It wasn't a dream, this made her feel better
She went to the doctor, to lose extra weight
He gave her some pills, at first she felt great
She had made new friends, she's finally someone
Now she had a purpose, this was so much fun

She lost 50 pounds, thanks to all the pills
She just disregarded, all the constant chills
She took them more often, and the effects wore
Faster than before, so she needed more
Months began to pass, she didn't get a call
She remembered letters, she mailed them all

She was watching TV, then she got so scared
Something seemed to happen, for which she's not prepared
The refrigerator, seemed to slide toward her
Again it was in place, how did this occur?
She downed some more pills, then she went to bed
The fridge followed her, was this in her head?

She couldn't stand it, she put on a dress
They still didn't call, did they lose her address?
She went to the subway, and jumped on a train
She tried to tell people, but it was in vain
About the TV, and being on a show
They thought she was crazy, she just didn't know

Pill effects got worse, as she made it there
She made it to the desk, sweat matted her hair
She said she was for TV, but they didn't call back
The woman used the phone, thinking she's on crack
She called in white suits, to take her away
She thought it was the set, for which they showed the way

She didn't understand, the pills made her insane
Hallucinations were, her body in pain
The doctors all said, she was too far gone
To be sane again, because of what she's on
They sent her away, to a mental ward
She asked for the stage, but she was ignored

Though she's locked away, her brain doesn't see
That she is tied down, and she is not free
She thinks she's on stage, infront of the crowd
She can hear her voice, amplified so loud
It's too bad she can't, go out and explore
Anything outside, she's worth so much more

Erin's observant :)

Good observation here Erin... but did you notice the poem Exit Life is also about a character from that movie? If you haven't read it, I think you may like it.

Coma

I've had one published in a poetry.com style book... but then again I'm sure just about everyone here has... I haven't really tried to get any of my work published.

WOW! That is a really scary situation to be in. Where in the world did you get the idea to write this poem? If i knew who she was, i would say to her that being overweight really sucks and i am glad i am not using drugs, bulimia, or anirexia to solve that. Im on weight watchers and it is better than some drug. Very Interesting Poem!

Seizure's inspiration

You wanted to know where I get my inspiration from? About 80% of the poems I've submitted here are from personal experiences. The other 20% are split between friend experiences, movies, or other media. Others I just make up and pull it out my ass (like the 20 poem story for example... it's all made up in the twisted little head of mine).

This particular poem was inspired fromt he movie, "Requiem of a Dream" or whatever it's called. I also wrote, "Exit Life" about this woman's son in the movie. It was a good production, I liked it :).

Good

This lady obvious had a dream, and it was taken away from her. Too bad she had to go to the mental ward

Great!!!!

Your poem was great, from start to finished! Keep up the work, you're one of the reasons why I read poems.
