Broken Pavement

It was one Saturday, walking from downtown
The usual was up, again I had a frown
But the birds were chirping, the sun was shining bright
It seems about time, that I feel the light
So I closed my eyes, and looked deep in my soul
I noticed I was hungry, my stomach wasn't full
I wanted a burger, and some nice warm fries
I turned toward BK, then I heard some cries

Car tires were screaching, five shots flew past me
Then I finally felt it, one had grazed my knee
Blood poured from the wound, I grabbed my leg and fell
I knew I would live, but it hurt like hell
Then I heard some crying, so I turned around
A little girl was standing, staring at the ground
Below her was her father, laying on cement
I knew he was dead, it's this I resent

The girl grabbed his hand, and cried as best she could
Until her legs gave out, like I knew they would
Paramedics came, and tried to take her dad
But she kicked and screamed, he was all she had
Why take her father? Why not me instead?
All the broken pavement, is now soaked with red
They pulled her away, and put him in the truck
I fear for the life, that she now is stuck
