Your Mistress

I feel as though
I may lose you to Death,
A mysterious mistress
Who longs for your breath.

From this harsh world we're in
She offers you escape,
But in my eyes she is a thief
Precious life she seeks to rape.

She beckons you
From eternity's mystical realm,
Whispers your name in darkness
Casting her hushed spell.

Intoxicating your mind and soul,
Overshadowing your love for me,
With false promises of eternal beauty
True hideousness that in darkness can't be seen.

Look into my eyes,
Hold onto me tight,
Block out her conjuring cries,
Her false appeal, her lies.

For it is I, not she
Who can allay all your fears,
I who will always be there,
To collect your fallen tears.

Don't seek shelter in her cold arms
For I will love you true,
And I am tangible happiness
That will stand forever by you.
