I Am Not You

I know you think you understand what I'm going through
But you really don't get it, I am different than you.
I cannot be as smart as you or bring home all straight A's
So please, get over your f--king self, this is not just a phase!
To have to listen to your put downs each and every-day,
Does not make me feel better...try another way!
To continually call me lazy and say I "Am no good"
Doesn't help me at all. I am not understood.
I try to talk to you, make things alright.
But all it ever leads to is another pointless fight.
You always raise your voices to me, I raise mine back
Then you go on to say it is maturity I lack.
I try to hide it inside, but eventually it all comes out,
Must it be so necessary for you to always scream and shout?
You say all the time that its not a matter of trust
Then why does it seem like "Holding me back" is such a must?
I sit you down, talk to you, make you very aware
But of this situation, you do not seem to care.
I pour my heart out to you, tell you how I feel.
But you treat me as if I was just another leftover meal.
I know that you love me and that you don't understand,
But why is it always necessary for you to reprimand?
Please give me a chance to experience all I want to do.
And lastly, I beg you, realize I AM NOT YOU!!!
