Only in the darkness of my night
do I have the safety of impenetrable distance
and eyes adapted for veiled truth,
can I begin to see the wonder of your being.
Only in the darkness of my night am I free from
a pounding heart, a race of emotions,
pushing meaningless plattitudes from my mouth
closing doors and opening rifts
between who I am and you.
Only in the darkness of my night
I am blind to the shallow testaments of the flesh
clearing my senses
to begin to truly see the magnificence
of the miracle which is you.
Only in the darkness of my night
love which is beyond thought and words
covers my eyes and ears showing me
images of you not amplified and distorted
by my own petty needs and wishes
but raw and true.
Only in the darkness of my night
from a distance in the quiet and lonely place
in which I do my deepest soul searching
a conscience illumined by the darkness
does my own raw and true self allow
a small and fleeting glimpse
of the way things are.
There is no flattery here
no soft decepetive words.
I shudder at the touch,
moved to the bone
because stripped of all the baggage that comes
with me every other place
the only light is our true selves.
I begin to see me,
and let you be you,
Only in the darkness of my night.
