An Old Lion's Last Charge
25 November, 2002

He laid in the brush of enforced civility,
Contemplating a life that had been so proud,
Now gone, now taken away,
The orange sun setting upon his dwindling day,
He could not comprehend,
The absence of those,
Who would not lend,
A recognition of his valor,
His pride, his contribution,
Now he was reduced to a hideous mutation,
Then he stood again,
Again on those once-powerful legs,
Determined at last to take back the offensive,
One last time, his time, a glorious time,
He charged with all his remaining strength,
Into the world of God and Mammon,
Extending his body to a possessed length,
And then he was gone, he was crushed,
But he died has he should have died,
With honor upon his kingly plain,
Never to reappear again,
The summation of his power,
Now let the young lions appraise,
The events of this regarded day,
Indeed, it was the old lion's finest hour,
His body would not serve as carrion,
For all those who happened by,
For those who understood his kingdom,
It then should come to pass,
That those who were passerby,
Could only construct his death,
As a majestic tower.

Great

I thought that was awsome
I love it how did you do that I could never write something like that

Outstanding, Noble, Powerful, Meaningful, Courageous!

Will,
Truely, one of the best poems I have read in a while. This was smooth as silk, I think, this a Guy/Lion pem..., we will all reach the end of the trail in time, what a noble way to go.

Super work, one of your best, I think. Some how, it was even, gentle.

Had to come back and read it again!

Will, after my first comment, I had to make a business call, but your poem was still with me, really, wanted you hear me say, what fine poem this is.

So, descriptive and honorable. In fact, I could "hear," that Old Lion's last ROAR!

This poem needs to published, published, published!

Other than these few, comments, it was an okay poem.

Kidding, I'm proud for you, this is great work!
