My Body And My Mind

My body
And my mind
Are separate beings.
They hate each other,
Even as much as they exist.
They are always quarreling,
And fighting.
I don't take sides.
I can't take sides.
For when I do,
It just gets worse.
It's a raging battle
That no one wants to be
In the middle of.
And they are lucky they aren't.

My mind wants to
Kill my body.
My bodies only defense
Is from outside sources.
It must drown out the pain
My mind puts it through.
It slowly poisons itself with:
The wonder smells of glue
The mind altering powers of pills
The warmth of a cool drink
The feeling of a puff of smoke

It all feels better, and for what?
Protection.
With the protection<
Comes a high price.
The cost of
Slowly
Destroying
Itself.

Little by little
Day by day
Week by week
Month by month
Year by ...
If it even lasts that long.

It's a vicious war,
That I feel will end soon.
I will break the cycle.
Even if the cost of my life.

Striking

Quite an unusual and unique poem Xeracy - I like the idea that body and mind are constant battling. It allows for some contemplation as to what really controls us.....

It is quite a battle. Ever been there? It is quite interesting.
What do you think really controls us?
