Hank Jr And Cry

What's she doin'
hangin' 'round with me?
On the road with Hank
Is where she'd rather be
Out there ridin'
down that lost highway
Just beltin' the drinks
and rollin' away

Ev'ry evenin'
the story's the same
She pours some Old Jim
and puts on that sad tape
Then she's dreamin'
her mind is just gone
She's thinkin' about him
and that road he's on

When she holds me
I can't fool myself
I can tell her heart
has wandered someplace else
And yes I'm lonely
though she's here with me
'cause when it gets dark
I know right where she'll be

She likes to listen
to Hank Jr and cry
She gets out the Jim Beam whiskey
as the tears roll from her eyes
She does it night after night
then leaves me high and dry
She likes to listen
to Hank Jr and cry

------- Author's Notes -------

I was in a country frame of mind when I wrote this back in the early eighties. I don't remember if I was drunk when I wrote it.... probably because I was TOO drunk to remember if I was drunk when I wrote it! I do believe the more whiskey you drink the better this one sounds! Plus, the more you drink, the better lookin' I get! Don't forget to imagine a pedal steel guitar and a blazing fiddle while you read this. Oh, and a couple of good shots, too!
This is dedicated to ALL you country fans out there! Thank you very much, ladies
and gentlemen! ***Ben

Just A Country Girl, following..., Country Traditon

Ben,

To much turkey in your bird this holiday? Doesn't really matter, there is truth in what Jim has to say. Thing about old country roads and steel guitars, they always, bring forth, Country/Western, singing stars.

I remember a bar, way out West, out in the country and the air was fresh. Had a great time, but when morning came, I caould see them all, stars from the East, stars from the South, Stars from the North, what brilliant ligts, but, the best of all, were the stars from the West, singing in those Country Bars. I saw Kitty, Loretta, Merel, Little Jimmy D., Old' Hank, Buck, Jim R, Hank S, and Hank T, Marty R., Thought I had seen them all, until, Ben Laney wrote this poem, had to add one more.

This was Fun, Thanks Ben, I know what you mean.

Martin, Make mine Wild Turkey, and....

Martin, Make mine Wild Turkey, and you can have that every day ALL year round! Ha! Ha! Haaaa! Actually, I was just kidding about being drunk when I wrote this one. I am not into "drinkin' and writin'", I run into WAY too many things without it! Your comment here is VERY much appreciated, and I am honored that you'd put my name in the same sentence with all those "Country Legends"! Thank you soooo much, Amigo! I really am pleased that you enjoyed it!***Ben
