Shadows Of The Dark

Once again the macabre voices call out in the dark
Fog filled visions fill my sleepless mind
Running I try as I might to escape
But from what do I run
From what do I hide

A knife slashes my skin as I inspect the injury
I stumble on through the darkness running away
Forever afraid of the unseen demons
Who are they, these shadows of the night..
Myself, my past, the fears of my existence

I cry out with a voice that no one hears
Muffled against the darkness of the dream realm
I grab a weapon and try to fight back
Slashing into the nothingness of the darkness
The fears leave me powerless

The fog filled dream fades and reality sweeps in
Its only another dream I realize easily now
I shake off the remaining fear
I wipe away the sweat as my heart again slows
Hearing my name called ...in the silence ..I cringe

------- Author's Notes -------

Are nightmares the minds dark games or could they be the secret insight to our own fears and inadequacies.
