Democracy's Shame
13 November, 2000
author: Rebecca Ditch-Hammack (aka Dreamer)

vinebar

Watching the mess as it comes into light
Political misgivings a terrible plight
Two men of power fight for it all
To be king of a country, save for the close call

Mistakes have been made and circumstances all weighed
As dreams of the democracy fade
In decision we wait for what's just
For an outcome of who do we trust

We watch as they fight tooth and nail
Each claiming victory or fail
In arrogance one already lays claim
We sit back and watch histories shame

Its been a year we have sat, head shaking
As we watched the political law breaking
In the end our representation we trust
As we the people yet again watch in disgust

never

trusted the process or those attempting to gain by it; the lovely thing about cynicism is that one is never disappointed...K

Great Poem!!!!!!!!

I just read "Democracy's Shame." What can I say? It's a great poem. You summed up so many people's feelings so well.

In answer to your question. This poem is about the good old US of A. First election where hanging chads and miscounts changed the whole look of an election process.
