Butterflies

"Come see what treasure I found today"
A little girl full of excitement
Takes my hand and leads the way
Into a room full of tiny wonders
Locked up in jars
Their wings a nonstop flutter
"I've collected one for everyone I know"
"Honey, I don't think you should have
these belong in the world"
Jars upon jars stacked six high
All different colors
All wishing away they could fly
Such an innocent notion from this girl
But such sweet treasures
From the earth she stole
She hands me my jar; I can't help but cry
How wrong it is
For all the butterflies to die
But its wings don't rest
It looks strangely calm inside
Like this place is the best
"I know you're afraid, but they are pure
they told me so
they would spare sometime from the world
to grant me my wish of showing I care
that to this kind of gift
no others compare
they are as innocent as I, don't you see
they want to give their part
say their thanks, just as me"
Holding hands we walk outside
"Give the gift of freedom and life"
And after lingering by the jar, away it flies

Beautiful

Beautiful, your words capture the innocence of a child very well.

You show your grace, as you give back their freedom

Maranda,

I also, see the beauty and message in your poem. The world is full of beauty, but, very little do we own. There is a grace in your thoughfulness, to return this beauty, back to it sacred place.

I to wrote a poem called, "In Search Of Paradise," your thoughts and mine, some how seem to coincide, review it if you will, and I thank you for this poem.

Beautiful!
