The Price I Paid
Author: Charmaine

vinebar

After a year or so of trying,
I finally ended everything.
I gave them both my blessings,
And I let go of him at last.

Yes, it pained me to say goodbye,
But all I wanted was to see him happy.
I can see that they both love each other,
And so I can only admit defeat.

As much as I canít force him to love me,
I canít force myself to stop loving him too.
Saying farewell was the bravest thing Iíve ever did,
Though the excruciating pain is the price I have to pay.

Heís given me a wonderful gift,
The gift of his love, and how to love.
Being with him was a dream come true,
Though short was the time we spent together.

Some say tears run dry,
But in my heart Iíve cried forever.
Iíll gladly sacrifice my happiness just so heís happy,
Itís a price I have to pay and I have no regrets doing so.

They say letting go is the best way out,
And Iím glad Iíve done it at long last.
Iíll never forget the happy times we shared,
And I hope heíll have a happy life from now on.

------- Author's Notes -------

I finally let go, and I ended everything. I gave the guy I loved a letter, and I told him to win the other girl back no matter what it took. It hurt so much when I said goodbye, and tears were streaking down my face as I wrote the letter. I love him a lot, but I chose to let him go. Let him go to her, and I hope they will both be happy from now on.
