A Memory

I walk through an empty house
as I visit it for the last time
and I can still see you, still hear myself
laughing with you in our favorite room.

The quietness that followed
terrible in it's telling; closing in faster
made your hand stroke as you spoke
"it's our last run."

One last drink, one more try at making plans
yes, perhaps this time it will happen
I could have kept you then; you wanted me to
my fault because I let you go.

I walked through a changed life
and stand in the doorway, looking across the yard
as I watch you walk away
wondering if you would see me tomorrow.

But I remember the day our dreams were alive
so happy is forever
then a brief gladness rises in my heart
and I am convinced that it was worthwhile.

I walk through an old memory
and recall what went right, and never wrong
I feel myself reaching, I hear myself asking
for one more moment to say those words to you.

I hear the name I used to call as if it belonged to me
if only you knew that I still do
but a hollow feeling visits me, instructing me
and telling me to close the book.

Memories

Yes! Memories are the best to have, when ever reminiscing.... When I think about my old friends, I smile, because it's almost as though I can see us running outside playing games.... Nice one! Take care poetic scholar! Smiles, Meri

I have been there too

Again I am totally moved by your pondering of feelings so intense and yet rationalizing the moment remembering it and taking this mental picture put to words.. Looking back knowing it may be the last time you ever walk the same path you have walked so many times before.... Your words so inspire my own thoughts to travel back to similar times in my own life's journeys... Most excellent to feel a kindred spirit
