Take Good Care Of Jennifer
8 September, 2004

I've had New York City
on my mind
for a while
All I ask
before I leave
Is one sweet smile
I won't say
how long Ill be gone
Cause I don't know
Just kiss me
one more time
then I'll go

And take good care
of Jennifer
Tell her every day
I love her so
Please try
to make her understand
why her Daddy
had to go..
had to go..

I don't know
how we lost the feeling
but don't be sad
Somehow we
will go on living
with what we have
And I'll smile
when I think of you
And all we shared
And though I won't
be rising by your side
you know I still care

And take good care
of Jennifer
Tell her every day
I love her so
Please try
to make her understand
why her Daddy
had to go..
had to go..

------- Author's Notes -------

This is one of my very earliest attempts at songwriting, when I was a young man in the sixties. I have never recorded it, but it is still requested by some fans who heard me perform it in public at the first gigs I did. I'm dedicating this one to my very lovely first-born daughter, Jennifer Lynn. With great big Love, Dad

go for it

This is so nice you should share it by recording it. Oother dads out there can probably relate and will want to dedicate the song to their kids. very warm thoughts.

Barb, you are right, other Dads could probably relate to this one as well. Who knows? There may even be some young ones who would relate to it, too. Thank you very much for your encouraging words, they are appreciated a lot. I am glad you like this one! Best To You, Ben

I knew your Dad for a brief time. He would come to my Karaoke shows in Scotts Valley, Santa Cruz, and Aptos, back when he and Lori Ann were dating. I am truly sorry for your loss.

Honesty

As many times as I played this song with Ben I never figured out what the reason was. What was it that Jennaffer was supposed to understand. Maybe I could've said it to my own daughter Jenna. So plainly written almost too honest for public declaration but honest it was.
