Back-track

I used to be the only one at the back,
The lonely one taking flack.
Verbal violence, beatings, until I was marked with blue and black.
Mentally I couldn’t hack it,
Couldn’t deal with the confidence I lacked in.
Was ready to pack it in,
Thought I would crack like a train off the track,
All the pain stacked,
Train about to impact…

But all that changed….
Head high and intact
So how did I go from being like that to where I am now?
How did I react, and learn to be proud?
Let’s back-track to my background.
I was influenced by the sights and sounds around me,
With my head in the clouds my surroundings helped ground me
When I was in that world of my own.

I’ve grown up knowing that one day I’ll blow up,
And make it big time if I stick to flowing rhymes.
So every time I felt the stress day to day,
I wrote it down in my own way.
Get the pain out, plain and simple.
Take the blame out on the page and unleash my rage.
I couldn’t be free if I kept it all caged up.

But their words still shred my body,
with razor sharp comments commenting on never ending heartache.
Stealing my life with blood stains on their shirts- where they hurt,
Where they hit.
They made me feel like I wasn’t worth ….

But I never quit my dream.
I stuck with it and bit by bit. I’m getting where I want to be.
I now know I can achieve my goals if I believe in myself and know I’m the one in control.

So this little unknown,
Growing full grown,
Going full circle like she’d always known she would,
Looks like she’s got a good future,
And she’s learnt from the past,
That the present,
Is something you’ll look back on, and learn from if it is’nt pleasant.

If it is then enjoy, don’t let life’s ups and downs destroy you.
There are no mistakes, only lessons, and I’m learning every day.
Asking questions and getting answers, finding my way.

All this learning is burning me inside, like a flame.
Turning me into an artist, raising my game.
Never feel ashamed to speak your mind. State your claim.
The word on everyone’s lips is my name,
‘Cos I made it through the harsh terrain and trained.

My lesson – Be different – why be the same.

One of my aims as a poet is to show people there is always a light at the end of any tunnel they pass through. I'm so glad that came accross.Thank you very much for those kind words.

Terrie is on the ball

Natalie, girl, you've got an extreme gift for poetry. Like in your poem "Back-track"... Your rhymes just spill out and flow without force. You can write. I truly admire your style of writing. Bootiful! LOl! Just beautiful!
