A Helping Hand

A hand extended through the dark
to pull me out of life's restraint.
The flame then dwindled to a spark
that sputtered out. Now hope is faint.
So dread has overwhelmed the light,
explosions shake the tunnel wall.
I feel afraid of darkest night
where shadows dance and demons squall.
That flare has flickered long enough.
So will this passage be my tomb?
It should be made of stronger stuff;
illume a pathway through my gloom.
A blaze returns to flood my fear,
the shadows fade into the void.
I skip along the path now clear,
those daunting visions are destroyed.
The hand appeared to lift me out
to respite. Night is slashed apart
as peace surrounds. My doubt
with demons flee; life hugs my heart.
