Another day the heat baking our backs,
Sand everywhere you can see,
The wind blows it to places not just your feet,
Sand and heat a vacation you say,
All I feel is sand in my boots sand in my socks,
Sand in my shirt, sand in my pants,
Sand everywhere, in everything,
I clean my gun several times a day,
Then it starts again,
A shot is heard were from? This way,
Tanks rolling near, as if thunder was approaching,
Their noise rings day and night,
Then silence follows to bring an eerie comfort,
In this deafening silence sleep I cannot,
Tomorrow another day will rise,
My family is safe from harm,
To hold them near I long for their touch,
My wife I miss you, I treasure you oh so much,
Our children to hear them argue I give them the world,
My choice to be with you is always in my mind,
Each shot I fire, my life shortens in many ways,
Our fighters fly high above a good feeling of today,
When fighters fly low,
We dig for cover from another foe,
We are told they are our foe,
This was the body of a boy,
His mother crying why, over is torn apart body
Children are maimed in so many ways,
But I am told they are our foe,
All I see are families torn apart from war,
They want to live in piece just like you and me,
This sand is everywhere my hands, face and hair,
To eat after today I’d throw it up I know deep,
In seeing those bodies without arms and feet,
Our mines cause much more than war.
To be home with you,
Is my hope one day …….. soon

------- Author's Notes -------

Thank You Terrie

I was thinking about all those who should be home,
Thanksgiving and Christmas soon will be here,
Many again will never come home,
So all lets prey they all come home
