My Sons Letter To Santa.....
11 December, 2004

the envelope was addressed to Santa
north pole
the writing was that of my son
since he began writing
he never asked for much

when he was very very young
he always asked for one thing at a time
when he was 2 he wanted a football
he got one
and slept w/it every night

when he was 3 he asked for a fire engine
he so loved his truck
kept it shiny and bright
at the age of 4 when he was starting to form
and sound his words
he wrote his first letter to Santa
that was when his sister was in the hospital

" Sana pleece breng sise hoem fur karismus"

that wish was granted so he was very pleased

at the age of 5 he asked for a train set
had so much fun with sissy daddy and me
when he was 6 he wanted a
helicopter or an airplane model kit
which ever one was easier to complete

then when he reached the age of 7& 8 he asked
for baseball cards a total sports nut like his dad
spent day and night
sorting them out with his dad

now he is 9
his letter to Santa is very different today
as I sat down to open the envelope
I start reading each word

my heart froze
unable to skip a beat
my hands were trembling
I was unable to speak
my heart became
a big lump in my throat

the tears rolled down and splashed upon his letter
I tried to take in a deep breath
even this was such a difficult task
my heart started pounding in a rush
my whole body almost got limp
as it was getting very weak
his letter melted my heart

I was expecting
for him to ask for more baseball cards
his words were as I write

Dear Santa,
all I ask for is to bring my daddy back

i don't want momma sad
i hear her crying a lot every night
since daddy went away

sometimes when she thinks we are asleep
I peek out the window
I see her sitting down by the ditch
the same spot where my daddy
hugged her every night
when we all enjoyed ice cream
and took a nightly stroll
we all put our feet in the water
and splashed one another
we all had so much fun
back then she was always laughing
now that laugh turned sad
Santa please
could you do this for momma

i promise not to ask
for anything else
for me

------- Author's Notes -------

he is now 23 unselfish young man.. still always thinks of me...this was written 12/91

yes when i think about his letter my tears still roll down my cheeks...his dad had been deceased for 4 months when he wrote his last letter to Santa ..this was one wish that was never granted in 1991..and it broke my heart to see his sad look on Christmas morning...you see, he fell asleep on the recliner hoping to hear his daddy open the front door...
