Christmas Caramels Tradition
Author: J Freedom Long

vinebar

A long time ago, Grandma shared
a family secret with me,
We made her Christmas caramels,
From old caramel recipe.
Sugar, butter, creme, corn syrup,
Cooked so slow 'till just right to set.
This year again to melt in mouths,
Family did say..."best ones yet!"
Time for Grandpa to show Grandson
this Christmas caramel recipe.
He learned secret of caramels
Is something not written to see.
Caramels stirred with patient love,
All know... cook slow, without haste.
Next year is time for Grandson Tim,
His Christmas caramels to taste.
Love is the secret ingedient
that brings caramels to fruition.
It wouldn't be Christmas without,
Christmas caramel tradition.

------- Author's Notes -------

This year, I taught my Grandson, Tim how to make our family Christmas caramels. He will be the 9th generation to carry on a wonderful tradition of those delicious caramels made with love. It inspired a brief poem to share with others this day after Christmas about family traditions that are never planned..... they just happen and stick....like caramels.
