My Little Girl
26 December, 2004

Today we spoke like never before,
Today I heard in you a girl now grown,
As we talked like apart we never are,
You’d say my name “daddy”
Just as you say it everyday,
Now at eleven you help me more,
With so many words that stick in my mind,
I vision my baby new,
A little girl who I love up to the sky and back and always have,
I vision you needing so much care in everything you do,
I see you in pictures now all grown,
Hard to sometimes believe you were so new,
That first time I held you in my arms so small,
I could do nothing but cry,
The first time I bathed you clean,
I asked your forgiveness for mistakes to come,
That first time I dressed you warm,
I talked to you for an hour or more,
Then all the days that followed I new you and I would be close,
Too much like your dad and that makes me proud,
Here you are now on the phone,
Still that little girl I love up to the sky and back,
Telling me you like the presents I sent,
As I listen to your caring voice,
I’m so warm inside you’re my little girl,
I tell you words that you know so well,
I love you up to the sky and back,
I’ll never forget those words Dad,
Why I ask,
Because you always say them to me ever since I was a little girl,

Memorable

Always stirring me up with three grown daughters now...thanks Clive.....looking into their eyes when first born made me think something beyond us made this soul, and then to see our traits come out in them is special...the good traits. Love up to the sky and back ain't forgotten like many quality words and moments between a Dad and daughter....thanks for a wonderful poem, again. Jerry
