A Decision Everyone Faces

Taunting, Pressure, Encouraging name-calling.
Resulting in smokeless lungs questioning the harm.
Surely one measly puff wouldn't intoxicate the lungs.
No squeaking siblings, parents will never know.
For acceptance and popularity is at stake.
God will forgive if it's a mistake.
Choosing to decline could create.
Frowns of disapproval spreading like disease.
The name-calling altered into unpleasant tease.
All this in exchange for the personal inner strength gift,
and to avoid the tortures of agonizing guilt.
Racing Thoughts
Sweaty Palms
Then suddenly smirks slowly appear,
and then the room brightens with respectable cheer.
For they were told what they wanted to hear.
Acceptance
Popularity
Is what you get.
The lost of inner strength
Accompanied by guilt.
Brings about the question.
Was it all worth it?

no it isn't

It kills me why some people think the only way they'll fit in a crowd, is to not join them, but intimidate them. By becoming something else, a bully, to gain acceptance and popularity, like you've stated. They fail to realize that their taunts and actions can have an affect on the victim they are teasing. I saw the Dr. Phil show not to long ago, about how a woman lost her son to suicide, because of a bully. The administrators, teachers, nor principle did anything to prevent this bully from harrassing this teenaged boy. Now, since his death, they're trying to set new rules and stuff. They waited too late for that. When I get on bullying Sharita, I get fired up, because I don't know why some kids feel that they have to gain respect by picking on weaker kids. Amazing poem! Right on, right on!
