If That Tree Could Talk
9 January, 2005

I sat on the porch
as I saw the crew
work fast
to remove the fallen tree from the road
that was uprooted by the winds tonight

I thought back about the many trees
that you have helped plant
before you died

I can still remember that one tree
that we planted at that house
we even named it after you

cause it was so strong and tall
every so often I pay a visit to that old place
I can see the tree standing tall
and the leaves waving cheerfully at me

many plants also adorn and wrap around that yard
that I planted when you died..

I can remembrer the many breakfasts
we shared on the front porch
I remember the many moon-lit nights
when all the neighbors were away

you and I changed all our plans
ohh, I remember like it was just yesterday
I remember the tree with our name
the one that...
yea that one..
oh how could I forget
the memories are engraved in my heart

oh God. I know I can not bring you back
and I know that you know how much I still miss you
the time that we spent
wasn't very long

I never recall you ever getting upset
or ever growning tired of me
except for the time when I was suppose to stay in bed and rest
at my doctors request
and I planned a big birthday dinner for you
I invited your buddies
yea I invited the whole crew
non were married so I was always spoiled by them too

you came in with tears in your eyes
because days before
"me" you almost lost

I reassured you that I was doing what was best
I had a word with God his plans for me
here on earth were not quite finished yet

yes and we meet underneath that tree
sharing a sweet birthday treat
made our own memories
the moon
the stars
you and i
against our tree

I am sure that your friends wondered where we went
but then also
they knew what I meant when I said if we can't be found
don't go looking for us

i wanted this to be a birthday
neither one of us would ever forget
it ended up as one that we all remembered very well

------- Author's Notes -------

as the wind whispered making music with my windchimes that adorn my porch my husband was heavy on my mind tonight he was my tree my solid foundation
