A Poem To My Aunt
11 September, 2002

I have a little picture and you were holding me.
You were probably twelve, I was probably three.
Now I don't remember you, do you remember me?
Forty years gone by and I'm no longer three.
I do hope your life has been good to you.
And I hope in some way I'm wished this too.
So many years have passed us by.
You weren't in my life can I ask why?
You know that families shouldn't be so apart.
So many regrets, a broken heart.

We can not get back all the lost years.
You know not having you has caused me tears.
Now a part of me is hurt, the other is sad.
So many unshared memories we could of had.
But your in my life now and for that I am glad.
Yet all the lost years do make me still sad.
And I do love you deeply with all of my heart.
Finally being blessed with a fresh sweet new start.
And for an Aunt I can say I would want no other.
Because a part of me is a piece of you because of my mother.

And even if we for some reason never see each other again.
Know that your not only my Aunt, your also my friend.
For the past is gone, and I will now let it go.
In order to let this new relationship grow.
And my mother was so lucky to have you for her sister.
I know all the years how you had to have missed her.
She is in heaven now, at home and free.
Knowing she will always live on, in you and in me.
I love you
