I have a secret...
I love you.
I love the way you say my name
when you're checking if I've fallen asleep.
When you rub the back of my neck
while I'm driving,
you send shivers up my spine.
I love looking at you...
I get butterflies in the pit of my stomach.
When my body
lays on top of yours
I feel so safe,
like you'd never hurt me.
I love resting my head on your chest
as I listen to your heart beat
so rhythmic and steady.
I love you as a friend.
You are someone I can trust...
and I do.
Someone I can talk to
until the early morning hours
about everything
and nothing
at the same time.
I can count on you to keep secrets
and,
although you don't know it,
you can count on me too.
And yes,
I also love you more than that...
more than a friend.
I love the feel of your lips on mine
with kisses so soft.
I love sleeping next to you
feeling your breath on my face
as you exhale so slowly.
I love holding your hand,
with our fingers interlocked,
feeling so close to you.
So when you ask me
what I'm thinking
(like you don't know)
this is it
all the time
every day...
I love you.

------- Author's Notes -------

I wrote this poem in June of 2001 in Hawaii and gave it to a guy I'd been seeing when I got home. Now, two years later, we're married... and I still feel the same way.

So Tender

Your words are so tender and sweet. They are the perfect epitomy of how I have felt. Absolutely sensational poem. So honest and blunt in it's beauty.....
