It Was I All Along

When the night grows on
And no one is there
The silence seems so loud

When I needed you most you disappeared
Without a trace
No crumbs to follow

I had others around who listened
They heard nothing
They said nothing

It seems I’ve resorted to another
Pain keeps your mind occupied
If only for a minute

It erases the thoughts from my mind
If only for a minute in time

The clock keeps ticking
It counts down the hours, the minutes until I go
Who will I be hurting?

The only thought in my head that kept me going
Now I have nothing

I help you but I get none back
I turn on the world
I turn on the only one who I thought would help

I’ve learned when pushed
You must push back

Having another hand reaching out
But never being able to reach

No one was around when I needed them most
No one dared to care when I felt all lost

Now that I have the strength to help and carry on
You want to ride along

I can’t let you on this time
For I found a load too big to handle
Carry yourself

I apologize for having to leave others behind
But I’ve found myself
I finally know now
That it was I all along
