As I Walk Along

I walk along the beach
The city skyline out of reach
My feet meet the cold sand
I'm surrounded by beautiful, it seems so bland
The wind blows, and I smell the ocean air
I run my hand through my hair
Reminiscing on memories
Seems so long ago, many centuries
Blue sky now a burnt red
The color fills above me, as if it bled
I kneel down beside a crashing wave
My initials "M D" are what I engrave
It washes away, fades away
A feeling within is a shade of gray
The sun casts its last glow on the ice blue water
A soft yellow, like melted butter
Weather changing to heavy rain
Dampining this sandy terrain
My hair is soaked, dripping
A mother and daughter together, laughing
From a distance I can see
A couple filled with joy, with glee
Everything so far away, out of reach
As I walk along the beach
