The Unknown Land

We only want what we can't have,
We only question what we don't understand.
Happiness is somewhere I've never been,
I'm too scared to set foot in the unknown land.

Because I'm too afraid of change,
Helping me will just cause rejection.
Sadness is the only thing I can depend on to be there,
I use it as my protection.

Maybe I'm scared that underneath the sadness,
An empty person lies.
I feel as if depression is all that I am,
I've become something I despise.

I feel safe in my cucoon of depression,
I can blame on everything wrong.
It's a label I use to seperate myself,
I've never really felt like I belong.

I can only imagine happiness,
For me it's just a dream.
For everyone else it comes so easy,
But for me it's not even a gleam.

I can see I'll be like this forever,
It's part of my personality.
I don't even bother pretending to hope,
Because sad is all I'll ever be.
