The Scryer Of Pompeii
19 October, 2005

He was once very popular,
And quite respected in his day.
A man of divine prophesy,
He was the scryer of Pompeii.

His prophesies were rarely grim,
Which made the people love him more.
But dark events would soon unfold,
A looming threat without succor.

His warnings fell upon deaf ears,
Respect he’d known drifted away.
Vesuvius will pose no threat,
Is what he heard the people say.

He warned of a great disaster,
One the people would not survive.
Pompeii and Herculaneum,
Were doomed to be buried alive.

Both were very wealthy cities,
And the people would not retreat.
While some suspected the scryer,
Of fabricating this deceit.

He was thrown into the dungeon,
And it was there that he would wait,
Until his prophesy came true,
And sealed everybody’s fate.

When the land began to tremble,
He announced that judgment was nigh.
And then a crash of thunder sent
Dark plumes of smoke into the sky.

He watched hot ash rain from heaven,
Then fell down on his knees to pray.
He could hear the people screaming,
As hell descended on Pompeii.

It didn’t have to end this way,
But they ignored his prophesy.
It was far too inconvenient,
For them to change their destiny.

Buried ‘neath a mountain of ash,
Back in seventy nine A.D.
They wouldn’t see the sun again,
Until the nineteenth century.

It was an eerie sight to see,
Many eye witnesses observed.
Uncovering all those people,
The ash kept perfectly preserved.

In a dungeon, they found a man,
Frozen in time, kneeling to pray.
A man of divine prophesy,
He was the scryer of Pompeii.

I've seen his picture!!

I saw a picture of the person you're talking about in a history class I took when I was in high school! This was awesome!
