The Ten Commandments

Canst thou acknowledge in thy heart
A God whom eyes cannot see?
For that is the first commandment,
That the Lord requires of thee.

Thou shalt have no gods before Him,
Nor worship idols of gold.
For thou cannot serve two masters,
And remain within God’s fold.

Do not take the Lord’s name in vain,
Lest ye follow a fool’s quest.
Respect the holy Sabbath day,
For it is thy day of rest.

Honor thy mother and father
And honor will come to thee.
Seek not to take another’s life,
Lest ye lose thy destiny.

Do not commit adultery,
Nor be persuaded by lust.
Do not give in to thievery,
Rather, earn each other’s trust.

Tell no lies against thy neighbor,
Give no false testimony.
There is a price for such a choice,
This path is dark and stony.

Do not covet thy neighbor’s wife,
Nor one of his possessions.
Do not let thyself be seduced,
By dark, lustful transgressions.

If thou wouldst choose the righteous path,
These commandments will guide thee.
For salvation’s road is found in
The guidance they provide thee.
