The Day They Both Said "yes"

She stands before a full length mirror, and smiles at her reflection:
a cloud of tulle upon her head, she's dressed in white perfection.

An old penny is tucked inside her shoe, a new handkerchief (should she cry),
a borrowed necklace at her throat, a blue garter upon her thigh.

This moment is an answered prayer: on her left hand, there gleams,
a jeweled band that promises, the consumation of all her dreams.

Her Mother smiles, right next to her, and wipes a tear away.
Her little girl, is a woman now, on this, her wedding day.

Her childhood friends, in satin gowns, stand with her, by her side.
They are honored to be chosen, as attendants, to the Bride.

He waits in anticipation, surrounded by the men,
who had his back throughout his youth, and are doing it now, again.

Pearled roses, gathered by the stems, become a hand-tied bouquet,
she'll carry down a runnered aisle, as her Father gives her away.

He'll kiss his daughter on the cheek, and then he will declare,
that into this man's hands, he'll trust, her tender heart, with care.

Dearly beloved, we are gathered here, to join this man and woman,
in the bonds of Holy Matrimony; into God's most sacred union.

Resplendant in his tuxedo, her Groom offers his hand.
She takes it with an adoring smile, and there, beside him stands.

The preacher asks him, do you take this woman, as your wife;
and promise to always love her, each day, for all your life?

He looks at her and knows that she's the reason he was born,
and without hesitation gives, the oath, to which he's sworn.

She's given him a precious gift: there, deep inside her eyes,
are the children of his hearts desire. For her, he'll fight and die.

And she, upon that hallowed altar, her past, will then relinquish,
to be reborn within his heart: a fire that won't extinguish.

They speak their vows in solemn tones: their word, is given voice.
They say to all who are gathered here, "This one, is my heart's choice".

They've made a joyous decision now, and sealed it with a kiss.
The preacher declares them, man and wife, let none disturb their bliss.

Their hearts sail on uncharted seas. From this harbour, they now press,
their memories of life and love, since the day, they both said "Yes".

------- Author's Notes -------

Inspired by the love shared by my son and his woman. They aren't married, yet, but if this Mom has her way.....I'll be having grandbabies in the next couple of years! Woo-hoo!

Thanks to all

for your kind comments. I knew the minute my son introduced me to this girl, that she was "The One" for him. They make me believe in the possibility of everlasting love all over again. I just pray that my 2 daughters find a love like this, for themselves. All of my children are really good people, and so deserving.
