From Here To Eternity

Joe was on the road of self destruction.
God was trying to save him from himself.
But Joe didn’t listen to the warnings.
He filed all God’s lessons on a shelf.

Reckless was the path Joseph had chosen,
The life of a thief beckoned ahead.
Joe ignored God’s silent voice of reason,
He didn’t care if he wound up dead.

But that’s not what waited in the distance;
Consequence governs each decision.
Death would have to wait a little longer,
Joe’s choices would lead him to prison.

And there he would wait for his redemption,
God’s voice getting fainter by the day.
Joe began to blame Him for his folly,
Hoping that the Lord would go away.

But now and then God would send a message,
And catch Joe completely by surprise.
Something said by Dad or little brother,
Found Joe holding tears back from his eyes.

Then he read a poem from a stranger,
And every word cut him like a knife.
It felt as if each verse was meant for him,
Singing of the folly of his life.

But the Lord’s voice spoke through every stanza,
His message burned into every rhyme.
“You can choose to blame me for your choices,
But you’re slowly running out of time.”

“Redemption can be had by anyone;
Whoever is willing to repent.
Bear the consequences of your choices,
See the pain of your sins and lament.”

For only a sincere heart can be saved,
Only those who truly feel regret.
It is they, whom Jesus lived and died for,
And they, whom His Father won’t forget.

But saying you believe is not enough,
Nor is going to church once a week.
Only when you give your sins to Jesus,
Will you ever find the peace you seek.

Live every day as if it were your last,
When it is you’ll leave without sorrow.
Worry about the choices made today,
And let God take care of tomorrow.

My friend, if you heed these words I’ve written,
And sincerely repent of your sin,
The Lord will see the truth within your heart,
And the faithful will be free again.

But this is a choice only you can make,
It’s you who controls your destiny.
You must choose where you will go from here,
That’s where you will spend eternity.

Let God control the course of the river,
And the current will stay straight and true.
He will take you to your destination,
And heaven will be waiting for you.
